The escalating crisis of stray dog attacks has caused widespread panic and anger across Telangana, with recent severe incidents reported in both Nagarkurnool and Hanamkonda districts. The recurring nature of these pack attacks targeting young children has triggered public demonstrations against local civic bodies for failing to control the growing menace.
In the Kalwakurthy municipality of Nagarkurnool, a horrific incident occurred in Subashnagar (Ward No. 19) when a two-year-old boy named Yousufain was brutally mauled by a pack of stray dogs. The toddler was playing right outside his house when the dogs suddenly ambushed him, causing critical bite injuries across his face and head. Horrified family members and neighbors rushed to rescue the boy and immediately shifted him to the local government hospital for emergency medical treatment. Angered by the incident, local residents lambasted municipal officials, alleging that their repeated complaints regarding packs of aggressive strays targeting vulnerable toddlers and senior citizens had been completely ignored.
Simultaneously, a series of severe attacks shook Hanamkonda district. In Venkateshwarapally village under the Kamalapur mandal, a stray dog went on a rampant biting spree, attacking four young children and an adult. One child suffered deep lacerations on the right hand before locals managed to intervene and drive the animal away. This follows another widely circulated incident in Hanamkonda’s New Shayampet area, where a seven-year-old girl walking alone was surrounded, pinned down, and mauled by a pack of seven to eight dogs. Her life was narrowly saved by a quick-thinking passerby who threw stones to disperse the animals, sparking massive protests against the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) for its failure to implement structured sterilization or population control measures.
