A serious case of ragging surfaced at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Nagarkurnool, leading to the strict suspension of four second-year MBBS students. The incident, which took place inside the campus hostel, came to light after a first-year junior student stepped forward to lodge a formal complaint with the college administration.
Following the complaint, GMC Nagarkurnool Principal Dr. Rama Devi convened an emergency session of the college’s Anti-Ragging Committee and Disciplinary Committee to investigate the allegations. The inquiry confirmed that the four second-year seniors had subjected the junior student to physical and mental harassment, including forcing him to perform repeated, grueling sit-ups and salute them. In a striking twist, local reports noted that one of the accused seniors had actually been a victim of a similar ragging incident at the same college the previous year, highlighting a cyclical pattern of harassment on campus.
Upholding a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment, the administration handed down severe penalties. The four guilty MBBS students have been barred from attending all classes and academic activities for a period of two months. Furthermore, their official hostel memberships have been canceled for an entire year, forcing them to find accommodation outside the campus limits. This strict disciplinary action follows another major ragging scandal at the same medical college earlier in the year, where seniors forced a junior into an “air chair” pose and assaulted him, prompting the administration to step up vigilance and strict enforcement of anti-ragging protocols.
