Unseasonal thunderstorms and severe lightning strikes across the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district resulted in three fatalities, including two women in Nagarkurnool and a man in Jogulamba Gadwal. The tragic incidents occurred when sudden heavy rains caught local residents exposed while working outdoors.
In Nagarkurnool district, the tragedy struck the village of Kodinapally in the Padara mandal. A group of women was working out in the agricultural fields when the sky suddenly darkened, bringing intense thunderstorms. Sunkari Saidamma (40) and Gajula Veeramma (60) were struck directly by lightning and died on the spot. Another female laborer, Sunkari Laxmamma, sustained injuries during the strike and was rushed to a nearby government hospital for emergency medical care.
Simultaneously, Jogulamba Gadwal district recorded another fatal strike under the influence of the same weather system. A person lost their life after being hit by lightning at Chandrashekharnagar village in the Manopad mandal. Aside from human casualties, the sudden hailstorms and severe weather caused immediate agricultural distress in the region, with farmers in nearby mandals reporting extensive structural damage to standing commercial crops like mango, maize, and chilli.
