Farmers in Nagarkurnool district staged a major protest at the District Collectorate, alleging that spurious and mismatched fertilizers were being sold to them at highly inflated prices by local private dealers. The agitation, which drew significant crowds of distressed agriculturalists, exposed severe structural loopholes and black-marketing in the region’s agricultural supply chain, prompting farmers to demand immediate punitive action against both fraudulent traders and negligent department desk officials.
The unrest boiled over when farmers from Jamisthapur and Anantasagar villages in the Telakapalli mandal discovered major discrepancies in the chemical inputs they had purchased from a private outlet near the old agricultural market yard. According to local agriculturalists, they paid premium rates for high-quality fertilizers like 28:28:0 and Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP). However, upon opening the bags in their fields, they were shocked to find that the packaging contained completely different, lower-grade mixtures—specifically 20:20:13 variety flour. Farmers publicly dumped and opened the mismatched bags at the gates of the Collectorate to demonstrate that the actual weight, texture, and contents did not align with the product labels.
